I’m thrilled to have paranormal romance author, Jayelle Morgan, with us this week! The interview highlights the second novel in her Elemental Hearts Series, RISE. Please read on to find out all about it!
Welcome and thank you for agreeing to the interview. Please tell us about yourself.
Hi, I’m Jayelle! I love pie, rocks, and writing about HOT Elemental Warriors. My favorite color is purple, and I’m a bit spacey, but it’s only because I’m daydreaming. Usually about those Elemental guys. 😉
I love the concept of your paranormal romance heroes. Tell us how you came up with the Elementals idea.
I wish I had an easy answer for how I came up with the idea for this series. It was a dash of the first X-Men movie and Fantastic 4, a pinch of Chinese astrology, a chunk of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward, and a handful of curiosity about ancient alchemy. I let that stew for several years, and by the time I decided to start writing, these guys appeared in my head almost fully formed!
What about Chinese astrology and alchemy inspired you?
In general, Chinese astrology is what decided who my first book would be about. In Chinese astrology, my husband is a Fire sign and I’m Water sign. (Funny enough, it’s almost the exact opposite in regular astrology.) But Fire just fits him. I don’t take much stock in astrology of any kind, I was just stricken how Chinese astrology fit our personalities so much more. When the idea for this series came to me, I knew the first couple had to be Fire and Water, just like us!
As for alchemy, it’s a fairly commonly-known ancient system of classifying things in the natural world. It divided things into “elements” to try and find a combination of which that would result in Gold. (Those experiments were actually responsible for several important discoveries science still uses today!) That elemental system intrigued me, and along with all of my other inspirations, gave me lots of “what if?” questions.
What made you decide to start the series with Levi and Brooke? (Their story is BURN, please see link below!)
See above about Chinese astrology. 🙂
Burn will always be $0.99 and free in Kindle Unlimited because I want to share my Elemental Warriors with the world, make them ask “What if?”, too. But keep an eye out, because I do run promotions here and there where the price is zero!
Are your books stand-alones or do I need to read the whole series?
They are stand-alones, but your reader satisfaction will be much greater if you start with the first book in the timeline, Burn!
Do you have plans to continue the series?
Absolutely! All the way until the end. Six books are planned in total, but if readers like the series as much as I do (and I hope they do!) I have some ideas for a spin-off series.
Please share your blurb and one selection from the book.
He gave her a night she would never forget…And a child too.
A year ago, Emory met the handsome, mysterious Ajax and threw her good-girl nature aside for one night of passion. She was fine accepting the consequences for her actions, and loves her son more than life itself. She never thought she’d see Ajax again, but now she desperately needs to find him. There’s something wrong with their baby…
She’s the only woman who’s ever taken his breath away.
Ajax never forgot Emory after their one night of passion. But he couldn’t keep her, because she is perfectly, completely human. And he’s not. But when she walks back into his life, it’s for the last reason he expects. Emory says the baby is his, but there’s just one problem: He’s sterile. All elite Elemental Warriors are. Which means she’s playing some kind of dangerous game, and he needs to know what it is.
When Chaos rears its ugly head, he’ll have to choose between protecting his new family and protecting his secret. One choice will take away everything that is important to him as a Warrior. The other could take away everything that is important to him as a man.
Can Emory find something meaningful with the extraordinary father of her child? Or will he sacrifice them in his mission to save the world?
🖤Check out a part of Ajax and Emory’s story. Jayelle’s lovely snippet from RISE:
When a man needed to satisfy the distracting urges of his mortal body, he looked for a certain type of woman. A woman who didn’t take herself or relationships too seriously. Who could accept what he was offering, enjoy it for what it was, and then let him go with ease when the night was over. Or the hour, if that’s all it took. Once he had glanced over tonight’s choices, he’d immediately found the one he wanted.
Problem was, she didn’t look like that kind of woman.
In a place where the dim lighting was meant to soften all the hard edges, she stood out simply because she didn’t have any.
She had noticed him too, but unlike the rest of the women here, she had ducked her head and pretended she hadn’t. Shy glances his way turned into pretending to look at something else while she sipped her drink. For some reason that had made him smile.
There was a softness to her that was unfamiliar to him. Her red hair was braided on top of her head in a wispy crown, eyes that flashed his way a mossy green. Skin that seemed to glow with its smoothness, and a modest sweater and skirt that said she wasn’t here looking for company for the night. He wanted to be her company anyway. She was a wet dream wrapped in pink cashmere.
What would all that smooth, creamy skin feel like under his hands? How many kisses would it take before she lost her shyness and opened up for him? He wanted to find out with a hunger that surprised him.
A hunger that was stronger than the physical one. He was out of the energy bars that fed his powers and kept his body from feeding on itself, and his stomach was growling. He should be going back to base to eat, but instead he was going to stay here, and imagine what feasting on her would be like.
“You’re not seriously considering that redhead are you?” Levi asked, breaking out of his bad-tempered silence.
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about the woman you’ve been staring at for the last half hour.”
Ahh, he hadn’t been nearly as subtle as he’d thought.
“Maybe,” he murmured, not taking his eyes off her. She was checking her watch again, something she’d done often.
Levi leaned his elbows on the table. “That’s not a one-night stand kind of woman. You can’t be that dumb. She’s not your type.”
The church-on-Sunday was the opposite of his type actually, but it didn’t stop him from wanting her.
“Fuck you,” he said mildly, taking another pull of his beer.
Motioning with his beer bottle, Levi said, “Whatever, man. Just trying to save you some shit.”
“Do me a favor and go back to your drink, Levi. I don’t need your shitty advice.”
Heat blasted from Levi’s side of the table, and Ajax smiled behind his beer. He’d always been fun to poke at, but even more so now that he’d started losing control of his Fire powers. Because Levi couldn’t hide his reactions, and he knew it, and that made it all the more fun for Ajax to stoke the flames.
“You’re an asshole, Ajax.” Then quietly Levi added, “Twenty bucks says she won’t leave with you.”
But that was no easy task he set for himself. Could he get what he wanted and still extract himself cleanly in the morning? Time to find out…
